Flashback!
Tale of two teams......It was 1968, and the Joe Fox-created New York Relays went head-to-head with the Penn Relays, and got great races, and great press at Randall's Island. Fordham Prep had an emerging mile relay that won an exciting race on the old cinder track at Downing Stadium. The anchor was a sophomore sprinter named John Hallinan who held off the charges of at least 3 experienced quarter milers. Although appearing to "crumble" as he charged down the stretch, John held on to win, perhaps fearing the icy stare of captain Joe Schaller. John was forever known as "cookie man" for his near-crumble. John went on to set the still-standing Prep 200 meter record, serve on the still standing school and State Catholic mile relay record, have a stellar career as a sprinter at Georgetown U., and be inducted into the Prep Track and Field Hall of Fame. Check out the 1st Hand Accounts - other photos
4/15 - Development Meet - VCP
Max Kinder breaks Frosh Javelin record with 118'5" toss! Gold medals to John Annunziata (V SP), Wayne Seaton (V 200m), Jared Blake (Jr. 200m), Antonio Rosa (Frosh 1600m), Barent Kovarick (Fr 800m) just to name a few!
4/13 - Seaton, Salem, Keefer, Petrovich and Febles are Journal News All-Stars!
Fr 4/11 & Sat 4/12 - Mayor's Meet - Randall's Island
The Prep got rolling this weekend with a fine 2nd place performance at the mammoth Mayor's Cup Meet. Bruce Grant got things underway with a soph school record in the High Hurdles, taking 4th in the event. Seniors Dan Altenau raced to two of the fastest early-season times in the 3000m Steeplechase, and Jourdan White took a familiar gold in the high jump. On day two, the 4x100 meter relay surprised by making the finals in a fast 45.06, and the 4x800 surprised no one with their 8:03.98 first place. The vaulters rode their Texas tailwind to a dominant day, taking an amazing 9 of the top 11 places, including gold medallist John Horvath and silver medallist soph Tom Ferguson. The throwers saw a plethora of PRs, so overall a great day.
4/7 - 2nd Annual Xavier-Fordham Prep Dual Meet - Joe Fox Track
Xavier's Anthony Gochal stars with meet records in the 180 low hurdles and, with teammate Andre Henriquez, 1st in an exciting 2x35m "drag race". Fordham's Zach Keefer sets track 800m record with 2:00.8 clocking, and Fordham's John Annunziata opens with 47'0" SP win.
Thank You
From Coach Febles: I'd like to thank the alumni, students, faculty, friends and parents that made Saturday's Hall of Fame Induction such a moving and humbling tribute. It was a testament to the special people that make up the Prep community that the night was as enjoyable as it was. I will always appreciate the efforts made by so many to attend the event, and the kind remarks made all evening. Again, thank you.......

1928-2008
On Tuesday, February 26th, 2008, Prep Hall of Famer Jim Scott '44 passed away. Jim coached at Xavier High School from 1956-1993, and served as Chairman of the NYCHSAA for many years. A history teacher at Xavier for 45 years, he was recognized by all as a gentle man who guided countless runners, dozens of coaches, and an entire league to always do their best. And always with honor.
Jim leaves with that rarest of riches.....he was simply loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed.

Field Men Rising........
Are the field events, ably coached by Messrs. Carney, Phipps and M. Febles making a play to reverse the order of "Track and Field"? Despite great performances on the track, including wins in the Varsity 4x200, and DMR, it was the vaulters, throwers and jumpers that put the exclamation point on 2007 as that year came to a close. Varsity wins in the Vault (James Schindler, 12'6") (Pt. 1) (Pt. 2) and Long Jump (Andrew Hemmings 20'3"), and increasing dominance in the shot put (Brian Seminario 48'9", John Annunziata 44' and Ryan Lyver 43'9"), may just be giving the face of Fordham Prep Track a Championship makeover for '08..........Happy New Year!
Novice = Never won a Varsity or Novice Medal (Frosh and Soph medals don't count; also, if you lose your "field events novice" you can still be "track novice" and vice-versa)

Sat 12/15 - . Jourdan White 2nd, 4x800m 3rd at Loughlin Games - Armory
Jourdan White's name and "marathon" are an odd couple, but 15 jumps, by virtue of a jump-off, is certainly Pheidippean for a vertical leaper. The 4x800 logged a fine 8:10 to take 3rd at the biggest meet in the nation. Great efforts, many PRs, from throwers, vaulters and hurdlers.
12/8 - CHSAA Relay Carnival - Armory

Prep's Best-Ever Finish at States
11/17/07 - NYS Federation Championships - Bowdoin Park, Wappingers Falls, NY
For years the team labored in the 20's....Always 20th, 21st, or higher. But the 2007 Rams XC squad became the first Prep team to punch in to the "teens", by virtue of a patient, confident approach to the race and course. And they were superb. The first team to put 5 under 18 minutes, again surpassing everyone's expectation but their own. Congrats on an historic meet and season.
11/17: Jesuits - VCP
And speaking of history.....the last runner to crack the All-Time Freshman list on his first try went on to become the best XC runner in Prep history. Saturday, Mike McNamara ran his first race since his "Classic Run" victory, and placed 2nd at the Jesuits in 9:24--the same time Rey Mendez ran in his first race in 1989. Rey went on to rewrite the Prep record book. Astride soph Tom Jennings' 14:20 PR, the future looks bright.......

Sat 10/27 - NYCHSAA Champs - VCP
Exactly 5 years ago in 2002, the Prep won the Sectionals after having been ranked as low as 9th in the league polls. And just as in '02, the Prep was ranked 9th this season, and entered the sectionals as a contender, but not a favorite to win. And as in '02, the kids came through with convincing wins. Add in impressive times in a torrential downpour, and you have one of the more outstanding team performances in recent Prep XC history.
The JV were mudders too, repeating as sectional champs behind Chris Cavanaugh's 1st place finish. The Frosh ran solid as well, placing 5th as we did last year.
Congrats to all!
